Session Name:

Take the Lead: Lessons Learned During My Transition from Expert to Manager

Overview:

You are a highly skilled programmer or technical expert, maybe you're even a guru? Even so, when the opportunity presents itself to move out of your comfort zone to tackle a new leadership role, it can be daunting. You need new skills and new expertise to make the transition successfully. The speaker, Sushama Chakraverty, has worked on many programming teams throughout her career and she's worked with different managers and leads before taking on the challenge to become a lead herself. Sushama will present practical advice and key learnings from her experience and offer real strategies to successfully manage the changes and challenges one faces when taking on a lead position within a programming team. The speaker will provide insights on how to know if the manager path is for you, give details on what you can expect as a new lead, and offer recommendations on maintaining balance and promoting team productivity as a new manager. Whether you've already accepted a manager position, or you are still undecided, this presentation will help ease the transition from expert to manager and provide tips that you can take with you as you grow in your new role.
