Overview:

The current state of the Brazilian game development scene can be understood as being rather peculiar as well as the localization issues involved. Brazil is considered to be the fourth largest video game consumer market and this is why many foreign companies localize into Brazilian Portuguese. However, through university programs, game jams and game development associations, this scenario has developed without a consolidated games industry. This presentation will show how the Brazilian indie game development scene operates, how to nurture a game development culture, as well as the use of localization to enhance the international reach of the game and strengthen Brazilian game industry. Through different points of view, the role of proactive leader-hubs will be discussed, and pointers will be given to replicate these strategies in any other industry-absent regions.
