Overview: | It's a really tough market for console games today. With average development budgets skyrocketing to $20+ million and established blockbuster titles costing $40+ million, profit margins are down. The ante for a hit title has gone up. If your title is not in the top 20 today, you probably are not making any money. As a result, it's tougher to get new funding green lit if you don't already have an established franchise. But there is still an appetite in the market for console games especially before the next generation consoles are launched and budgets increase further. Console games are still expected to be 54% of total global video game sales in 2013 according to the latest Global Entertainment and Media Outlook from PwC. Major publishers are still looking to introduce new properties on console to fill their long term product needs. |
