There are no talking-head NPCs to relate to, and no lengthy conversation trees;
so how and why do Harmonix games tell stories? Using examples from the main
ROCK BAND games, THE BEATLES: ROCK BAND, and earlier Harmonix titles, the
speakers will talk about the unconventional ways stories are told in the
company's music games, and why they are important. Techniques and issues
discussed include structural and implicit narrative, storytelling within the
context of a party game, using real history as story and gameplay elements,
tonal accuracy within writing, and using the word rock as few times as humanly
possible.
