Overview: While localization has always been a necessity with game publishing to increase cross-cultural compatibility, more advanced techniques of globalization and even culturalization have often been overlooked as a way for companies to increase their games appeal as well as their local market compatibility. Unlike localization (which is usually perceived as a development afterthought), culturalization is a broader plan for game design and development and globalization is a more holistic approach to game distribution that accounts for locale-specific concerns. Given todays dynamic online game worlds and rapidly growing global exposure, this lecture presents clear strategies for designing content for multicultural audiences and for carefully navigating local expectations in order to maximize the games appeal and thus revenue-generating ability.
