Session Name:

Designing for the Living Room: The Spatial Architecture of Mixed Reality (Presented by Meta)

Overview:

As we move from the virtual worlds of VR to physical room-aware Mixed Reality, the core challenge for developers is no longer just building a world, but building inside of the user's physical world. In this session, Doug North Cook (CEO & Creative Director of Creature) explores the design philosophy behind his team's game Starship Home and games released under Creature's game label that leverage these features like Thomas Van Bouwel's Laser Dance and Cubism, among others, to illustrate how architectural theory can help solve the constraints of real-world spaces. Attendees will learn how to design for the unique affordances of mixed reality while creating embodied gameplay that feels natural and intuitive on standalone hardware. This talk provides a framework for leveraging Meta's MR APIs to create ""Playful Architecture"" that transforms any environment into a dynamic stage for immersive play.
