Session Name:

Achieving International Success with Mobile Port and Publish

Overview:

In this session, CEOs Mr. Yuta Maeda of Japanese developer Pokelabo and Dr. Pascal Zuta of European publisher Aeria Games/SevenGames will present a case study which takes a look at a relationship which resulted in bringing the Asian mobile gaming phenomenon Trading Card Battle Games (TCG) now to a success in Western markets. By carefully adapting the mobile trading card game Immortalis through port & publish (not localizing but culturalizing by slightly adjusting part of the game-play mechanics, design and graphics while keeping the secret sauce of monetization), the two companies were able to take advantage of a previously unfilled market segment in the West. Immortalis quickly became and is regularly among the top 3 grossing mobile games positions in Germany and France, and performed consistently well in the US market. The presentation will reveal some of the secrets and key success factors of this success, and suggest ways a relationship between an Asian developer and a European publisher should be structured to enable success in the international gaming sector.
