Overview: Converting a videogame to a tabletop game should be simple - it provides a setting, game mechanics, and an existing audience. But how much should it be like the videogame and/or other games? If it's too similar, players won't need it. If it's too different, players won't like it.nnFormed over 4 years of designing Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and all of its expansions, campaigns, AI and RPG (plus 20+ years of game design experience), this talk examines how Bethesda's award-winning Fallout videogame series was converted to the tabletop game of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare.nnUsing examples, this talk looks at the problems of the task and the methods used to solve them. Plus, the talk examines the deeper, ever-present question during this type of development: When to be the same and when to be different, in terms of the game mechanics, the setting and the competition.
