The Toxicity Tax: Why the Future of Trust and Safety is Leadership Led

Overview:

Toxicity in gaming creates a measurable "toxicity tax" that erodes revenue and drives player churn across all major markets. This presentation reveals new research across six global gaming markets showing that half of all players spend (up to 60%) less money in toxic spaces or avoid games entirely based on reputation alone. It will also present a new approach to addressing toxicity - the Trust and Safety Triforce. While traditional trust and safety approaches focus on policy and tooling, education for digital community leaders has remained a largely untapped and scalable approach. This talk will present new research around player expectations, digital leadership needs, and actionable implementation strategies for scalable educational initiatives. Investing in support and education for digital community leaders in games is an effective way to reduce the toxicity tax on the bottom line while building resilient community ecosystems that drive long-term growth.
