Overview: 'Mafia III' is an open world crime game with a non-linear structure and presents the player with numerous game-changing choices. Narrative dialogue systems were an important development focus, fed by character relationships, game progression and player decisions. Using a classical game design approach to dialogue systems, this talk will outline key principles used for the relationship system with crime lieutenants, world-persistent characters, radio news and shows. Remy will dive deeper into "Sit Downs", the semi-interactive cinematics with high-tension procedural dialogue sequences putting the player into tough choice situations.
During the talk, he will look at the tools and approaches used throughout development, from pre-production to the release of 'Mafia III'.
