Session Name:

Acquiring Game Design Skills Beyond Entertainment

Overview:

Games continue to expand into many areas and industries, including medicine, education, and training. Often, the design of these specialized types of games are not focused primarily on entertainment and fun, but rather using those aspects to achieve other ends. This can create new challenges and constraints for designers, while also opening up fresh perspectives and revitalizing interest in making games that do more than copy last year's hits. This talk provides key lessons on how game designers can widen their approaches to succeed in these new, cutting-edge applications of games and game technologies, using the medical field primarily for examples while also learning to apply them to other evolving fields.
