Overview:

Are you giving your students a solid introduction to Game User Experience (UX) best practices from industry? Every aspiring game professional should be familiar with this important aspect of game development to be successful in a game team. In this talk, Celia Hodent and Katherine Isbister introduce a holistic approach to teaching game UX to studentsdefining what UX means in the game's context, how it feeds into so many aspects of good game design and development, and bringing considerations of ethics as well as diversity, equity and inclusion into preparing students to include game UX in their thinking, so they are better prepared to be (or to work with) game UX professionals in the industry. This talk builds upon the speakers' 2022 update to Game Usability, an edited volume with chapters from a wide range of academic and industry experts on Game UX.
