Session Name:

Expanding the 13%: Directing Game Access in Game Education

Overview:

The University of Washington School of Information, building on the work by the Video Game History Foundation's "87%" study, is researching how the current game access landscape is impacting game education. With legacy games legal availability already being inconsistent, and the growing volume of games released in the market annually, we set out to discover what games included as examples in game education programs are, what they have in common, and what hinders their access and preservation. This session is the presentation of the phase 1 findings with data captured from interviews with leading game designers, educators, researchers, and historians.
