Overview: This presentation will explore the design of nonlinear storylines, as well as the pros and cons of practically employing nonlinear narrative techniques in game design. The speakers analyze storyline models that make use of branching and multiple, intertwining story threads. This analysis is designed to assist in the choice of nonlinear storytelling techniques that are adequate to a given project. A significant part of the talk focuses on the problems involved in implementing these techniques, both from the design and production standpoints. The speakers draw on their experience in producing games from the The Witcher franchise, as well as from their personal knowledge of other famous titles.
