Overview: Representational State Transfer (REST) is a software architecture style for servers used by many services like RSS and Twitter. Dr. Harold Chaput, Technical Director of the FIFA Ultimate Team web and server groups, details how his team converted the existing RPC-based FUT servers to use a RESTful API, and the many benefits that ensued. Not all games can be RESTful, but most can. By doing so, these games can also reap the benefits seen by FIFA Ultimate Team that allow them to grow bigger and faster, reach a broader audience with a variety of devices, and let their server teams to spend less time optimizing and more time adding features.
