Overview: In military theory, the levels of war are classically divided into strategic, operational and tactical levels. While most games in the genre get away with the "strategy" or "RTS" stamp, two different games can sometimes be nothing alike.
A better understanding of some basic military discipline when building a strategy game will help designers better define their niche, evaluate their game against the right target market, and find places where they can innovate.
