With FIFA 12, EA has introduced EA Sports Football Club, a online community that connects millions of FIFA console gamers with the vast network of soccer fans around the world. To make this happen, the FIFA development team had to create a new set of RESTful services that could serve as a foundation and scale to support a massive user base, and add web-like client capabilities to the FIFA console game that support an ever-changing set of data and features. In this talk, Dr. Harold Chaput and Kallol Mitra will describe how their teams built the servers and clients for EA Sports Football Club, the choices made and lessons learned, and the continuing evolution of the EA Sports game from a product to a service.
