Overview: Idle games, or incremental games, have slowly become an incredibly popular genre despite requiring relatively little effort to develop and, at least at first glance, seeming like games that play themselves. This talk will examine the core and metagame loops to understand what's so compelling, why the retention is so insanely high, and why they are even very viable free-to-play revenue generators. It will look at examples across the space, as well as share specific metrics collected from the Kongregate platform.
