Session Name:

5 Things Core Designers Should Learn from Social Games

Overview:

Facebook games are frequently simple games with straight-forward means of interaction targeted at casual, mass market players. For that reason - because they don't appeal directly to the sensibilities of many hard core game designers and developers - they're sometimes overlooked as a source for design inspiration. Nonetheless, the social game segment of the industry continues to grow at a rapid pace, core gaming luminaries like Louis Castle and John Romero make the transition in to it, and the games continue to evolve quickly. This lecture will discuss some of the design and development innovations taking place within the social space and how they are applicable to the current and next generation of core games.
