Overview: For eight years, Poptropica has enjoyed huge success as one of the leading online games for kids. But they have struggled to produce sufficient content. In 2013 they launched Friends, a social expansion to the game. This generated a more than two hundred million friendship social graph. Their next challenge was to put it to use. Over the past nine months they have developed a user-generated content offering: Realms. In the first week of the public release of Realms, more than a million user-generated levels were saved. This talk will review the design of Realms and analyze its successes and failures.
