Overview:

Highly replayable emergent narrative is sometimes presented as a tech problem, not a design problem. Yet believing that we just need to wait for ultra-advanced A.I. to solve things is wasteful, since it creates an excuse not to tackle such problems right now through creative design. This talk will outline a method for doing just that. Using research and prototypes (both digital and non-digital) developed at MIT as part of an on-going research project in experimental narrative design methods, we will provide a concrete set of guidelines and examples of how current tech can be used cleverly to maximize replayability without ballooning content generation.
